Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will be sidelined for “a few weeks” after the Brazilian suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
Alisson was injured in a clearance and was left with a limp in the second half of the Premier League clash at Selhurst Park.
Czech Republic international Vitezslav Jaros, 23, came on for Alisson, with Liverpool coach Arne Slot admitting he does not expect his first choice to be available for a while.
Alisson is hampered by a hamstring injury and will miss the Premier League leaders’ game against Chelsea after the upcoming international break.
“What I know is that when a player goes out like he did, it usually means he’s not in the Brazil squad and I don’t expect him to be in the team in the first game we play after the break.” said Slot after Diogo Jota’s ninth-minute goal sealed Liverpool’s sixth win in seven league games this season.
“We’ll have to wait and see but it will be a few weeks before he comes back. I think that’s it, yeah (his Achilles tendon).
“He is clearly our number one, he is the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s always a big blow when he gets injured, not just for him but for us as a team.”
Slot suffered another injury setback when Alexis Mac Allister was replaced by Dominik Szoboszlai at half-time with a groin injury.
It’s unclear how long Mac Allister will be sidelined, Slot said: “I can’t judge how bad it is at this point.”
“He sensed it and said: ‘It’s not good to continue playing because it could get worse’.”
“It’s difficult for me to say whether he can play for Argentina. It was in the groin.”
